Rod building course and fly fishing

The construction of a bamboo fly rod is fascinating, most enjoyable of course in combination with fishing.

This exclusive course is structured so that, depending on the progress of the work, participants may fish in an exclusive small body of water during the course – naturally with a split cane fly rod.

The course content is identical to the basic rod building course - from bamboo tube to finished split cane rod!

The 2026 course will again take place on a beautiful body of water in autumn; the location is still to be determined. I offer the opportunity to participate in a rod-building course and simultaneously enjoy a unique fishing experience targeting brown trout and possibly grayling. Naturally, I will have several of my own rods with me, as well as examples from renowned masters. You are welcome to try them out.

The number of participants is limited to 5.

Date: Late September/Early October. I will announce the date in due course.

Cost: 1350 euros

It contains:

Manual, of course all necessary materials, the use of all available equipment, fishing maps on the hotel stretch.
Rod building course with:
- Fundamentals and theory on the preparation and processing of bamboo
- Splitting, straightening and hardening the bamboo (we use the Vietnamese bamboo species Lo)
- Planing technique, roughing and finishing (work is done on the Morgan Handmill)
- Construction and finishing (gluing) of the spliced rod blank
- Assembly of the sleeves, handle and roller holder
- Ring assembly, windings and varnishing
If desired, I can also issue fishing permits for Saturday.

The following are not included in the price:

The accommodation and meal costs at the hotel and the fishing license for Saturday/Sunday.

Since we want (or rather, need) to start early on Monday morning, we plan to arrive on Sunday evening and check out of the hotel on Saturday morning. However, fishing is permitted all day (extensions are also possible).

The costs for the room with breakfast (6 nights), evening meals and drinks are to be settled directly with the hotel.

I conduct the course with a maximum of 5 people.
